Menswear Winter Warmers!
So, as I said last time, I spoiled myself with pieces from the new Get The Label catalogue when it landed on our doormat. A week or so later I’ve been thinking that it’s only fair to see if there is anything I fancy for Mr Hectic Mum to Be. I’m spoilt for choice, however below is my much edited version of what I might be adding to his wardrobe - if he’s a good boy of course…oh, and if he lets me use his card!

One thing I’ve learnt over the past few years is that men can never have enough t-shirts. White ones always go down well - especially as I tend to find that they magically appear in the washing machine as I put a coloured load on, so they tend to go a bit grey and that’s never a good look. Bright colours are in trend for Autumn/Winter 2009 too so you if your partner is adventurous - like Mr Hectic Mum to Be - what about a t-shirt in purple, green, electric blue or red?!
Jeans are another essential item in any man’s wardrobe and at the moment denim is so popular that anything goes in terms of colours and styles, especially dark indigo as it always looks stylish and slots easily into any wardrobe. A good way of updating your man’s style quickly is to look for a pair with detailing on the pocket - such as this pair from Fly53 which have a lightening strike on the back pocket. They come in 3 lengths (short, regular and long) so it’s really easy to find a pair that fit well.

Now that its September I’ve noticed that the nights are getting cooler and winter seems to be well and truly on its way so I think it’s only fair that I replenish his lordships collection of jumpers. Hooded sweatshirts are always a good buy as they can be worn around the house, out in the garden, or in the pub watching the footy. Again, play it safe with grey or black and cheer yourself up with the thought that your man is sticking to the trends as these were the colours on all the catwalks for Autumn/Winter 09. Another option is to go for a v-neck knit in either a stripe or a plain. Lacoste do a great green or powder blue version, or for the very brave how about Henley’s pink or green sweater? To tone it down a little your other half could wear it under a jacket as this was a popular look again on the catwalks this season.
Another good investment in winter is a waterproof jacket - especially as football and rugby season is upon us and most men will be spending the next few weekends at the touchline - either at a stadium or watching the kids play. Black is the colour for AW09 - which is always a good thing in men’s eyes as they tend to be less adventurous with colour than us ladies! I particularly like this coat from McKenzie:

I love the fact that it has a concealed hood in the neckline which is perfect for those days when the heavens open without warning.
Sticking on the football theme, a new tracksuit is normally in order for autumn, when the weather is too cold for shorts and a t-shirt. A good idea is to get a set i.e. trousers and top which match because it always looks a little bit smarter. The great thing about most tracksuits today is that you can mix and match them - wear the jacket with jeans and the trousers with a t-shirt and hoody. Five looks from one buy. Again, I really like this tracksuit from Adidas as it’s a slim-fitting silhouette which is the key silhouette on the catwalks this season:

And last but not least, footwear. Trainers are another essential buy for men. I’m sure Mr Hectic Mum to Be brings home another pair every week - he’s fast outstripping me in the shoe department! White trainers always seem to appear often - Mr Hectic Mum to Be loves to have a brand new sparkling pair to go on holiday with - but then he seems to fall out of love with them as soon as they get scuffed or dirty.
Another option is the canvas pump - its rapidly gaining popularity as a leisure shoe instead of the trainer. Converse is the well known name of course but Jack Jones and Ed Hardy also do some great ones that are a little bit different. Jack Jones does a Calloway 3 pump in a grey sweatshirt material and Ed Hardy’s have great tattooed prints on them of course. For those men out there who do spend their weekends at the touchline or sideline - what about a pair of walking boots? They look great with jeans but are practical too as they’ll keep their little tootsies warm and dry - making them in a better mood when they come home to you. Timberland boots always go down well with most men and are a staple piece of footwear season after season - and Rockport also do some fab ones.
That’s it from me this week - let me know what you think of my picks, and whether there’s anything I’ve missed!!!
