Jeans for Genes Day
October is fast approaching - where has this year gone - and so it’s that time of year again! Yes its Jeans for Genes day next Friday, 2nd October - so it’s time to get organised.
For me this is an important charity to support as it funds support services and research into the causes and cures for genetic disorders. And it’s so easy to support and fun too - all you have to do is wear your jeans and make a donation of £2! Simple. Of course if you want to really get behind this cause you could organise all sorts of fundraising events - Jeans for Genes have lots of ideas on their website.
Now, seeing as you’re going to be doing something good by donating money to a good cause, why not treat yourself to a pair of jeans to wear on the day? After all, as I’ve said before, you can never have too many pairs of jeans!!
The skinny jean is a style that became popular last year, and its style star doesn’t seem to be waning yet. Firetrap do a great pair in really dark indigo, called Houston - these would be perfect during the day with a slouchy t-shirt and flat shoes to channel the 80s look, and then pile on the sequins and your highest heels to take them out at night.
Alternatively, you could go all out with colour and wear a pair of brightly coloured skinnies, like Ashlee Simpson, Victoria Beckham, Fergie (from the Black Eyed Peas) and Rachel Bilson. To ease yourself into this trend go for a lighter brighter pair of blue jeans, like this pair from Firetrap:

Once you’re comfy with these you can go mad with red, green, orange or yellow but just remember to keep the rest of your outfit neutral and simple or it might just be colour overkill.
Another popular style is the bootcut - great for ladies like me who have wider hips because it balances us out. I’m loving the Norder jeans by Firetrap because they are really slim-fitting and then flare out slightly at the bottom which is very flattering for my shape. I also love the dark denim - definitely a good going out pair of jeans. I’d wear these with a strapless top, fake fur jacket and killer heels on a night out with the girls. For something different try the Diesel Ronhar jeans, as they have a distressed look so each one is unique.

Another popular look for women is the Boyfriend Jean - slightly looser fit so really comfy - and looks great dressed down with t-shirts and trainers, or roll the legs up and wear with ballet pumps and a blouse for a more bohemian look. Gio Goi do a great pair of pale denim jeans called Beau (2354), which also fit into the 1980s distressed denim look.

Denim isn’t restricted to jeans however, the denim jacket is rising in popularity again, and Get The Label have got a great light denim one with a gorgeous crystal lion on the back - this will look great thrown on with your jeans, or over your party dress for a night out. Must admit though I am a sucker for anything sparkly!!

Or of course, you could go for a denim mini skirt rather than Jeans! Chilli Pepper and Firetrap both do cute styles.
The choice of jean styles for men tends not to be as wide as that for women. You can add interest though with pocket designs and fabric finishes. The king of embellishment is of course Ed Hardy, and my favourite pair of his jeans are the Top Hat Skull Jeans which funnily enough have a Skull in a top hat on the front!! The skull is a signature print for Ed Hardy - so everyone who is in the know will know that you’re wearing trendy jeans!!

Another way to add a bit of interest is to go for a pale denim jean - like the Riper jeans from Full Circle (2239). These also have zip front pockets which add a bit of interest, and if that’s not enough detail on one Jean - they are also faded for a unique look! Fab!
Or for those purists amongst you, why not go for the Jack Jones Clark Twin Clear Jean? A great pair of flattering dark indigo jeans which will look great dressed up or down. Please be advised though that these Jeans tend to come up small, so if you are going to get a pair buy a larger size than you would normally do - not something us ladies would appreciate doing but men don’t usually worry about things like that!
So, don’t forget click through to the Jeans for Genes website and request your fundraising pack, and on the 2nd October wear your old (or new) jeans with pride and know that you are contributing to a great cause.
