Happy Halloween!

October 29, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Uncategorized

Halloween is one of those nights which give us a great excuse to act like children and have a bit of fun whilst looking ridiculous! Looking through the internet there are so many themes and types of Halloween parties to choose from and I’ve spent a little longer than i should have deciding on what ideas to go for. You can have a Halloween party filled with Halloween treats for the kids and family or make it an adult-only affair by mixing Halloween cocktails such as Bloody Mary but either way make it a Halloween to remember with great decorations, hilarious costumes, and Halloween themed treats and food.

I came across this fantastic guide at the website Celebrations which shows you how to throw a Halloween party on a budget - ‘Scare your guests not your Wallet’ they call it and there’s another called “Kid’s Halloween Party on a Budget”! It has become my point of reference over the past week when planning my little Spooktastic party for this weekend and here are a few of the ideas I’ve decided on.

Great - another half term!

October 28, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Fun, Holidays, Things to do

So, what have you got planned for your kids this half term? The weather isn’t too bad oop North at the moment so I’m taking full advantage of that for my plan - to embrace the great outdoors! It can’t do me any harm and Kian loves being out in the sun - I just hope the weather holds out!

Recipe of the week - Halloween food!

October 26, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Food

We’re entering Halloween territory now so I thought it was time to do a few themed recipes. And I don’t mean peeled grapes pretending to be eye balls or spaghetti marquerading as guts!! I know we don’t celebrate (is that the right word?) Halloween like our American friends, but I still think it’s nice to get a few decorations and have a themed meal, and it’s fun to get the kids dressed up. If, like most families, you carve a pumpkin at halloween, these recipes are great because they make use of the pulp and seeds.

The first recipe is from a brill website called Domestic Sluttery. If you haven’t already visited it you really should!

More competitions!

October 23, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Competitions

I’ve got one more Get The Label competition to let you know about for October!

Goodtoknow.co.uk - a fantastic site dedicated to making hectic mum’s lives easier - has linked up with Get The Label to give 5 shopaholics the chance to win £50 to spend

on the site, ideal for the run up to Christmas. I would probably spend it on a party frock ready for the Christmas parties - preparing well in advance! Or maybe I’d feel a bit guilty and spend it on Kian or Mr Hectic Mum???….

Stuff Your Doodle

October 20, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Fun, Shopping, Things to do

Okay, so today I was supposed to be writing a post about something else, which is going to have to wait until next week now because I saw this over on Domestic Sluttery and HAD to tell you about it! [Breathe]

It’s the cutest little idea I’ve come across in a long time, really innovative and personal and it’s a perfect Christmas present for a whole range of ages. Its called Stuff Your Doodles and it’s a company based up in Scotland which had the idea that maybe, when you’ve doodled all over your note pad at work/home while on the phone to people with flowers, hearts and crazy characters, you might fancy turning them into cuddly toys! Better still, you can send in one of your children’s first drawings and they’ll transform them into real life making the memories last forever – let me hear you say “Ahhh!”
