In The Pink

October 09, 2009 By: Louise Kilburn Category: Fashion, Shopping

This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so I’m encouraging everyone to think pink and support Cancer Research UK in its bid to raise funds to continue its life-saving work.  A sobering fact is that one out of nine women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life - so the probability is that most of us will know someone who has.  A very good friend of mine was  diagnosed with breast cancer in May, and so I’ve decided this year to actually get off my backside and do something to help -  so I’ve signed up for a fundraising pack and I’m going to hold a “Dress In Pink” day at work and charge everyone £2 to wear something pink to work - and fine them £5 if they don’t!!!

Now because the guys and girls at our place are a little busy at the moment, they’ve asked me to compile a guide for them of what
they can buy in pink from the getthelabel.com site to wear on my “Dress In Pink” day - any excuse for them to shop!  So, I thought I’d share it with you too in case you decide to do something similar.  If you don’t fancy the idea of a “Dress in Pink” day, then don’t worry there are lots of other ways you can raise money - look on the cancerreseachuk.org website under their fundraising page for a list of suggestions.

As always, it is slightly easier for the girls to find pink things to wear than the boys, but it can be done!  For those girly girls out there who love pink you could go the whole hog and wear pink head to toe, or just add one pink thing to your normal work outfit and still support the cause.  An easy way to introduce a bit of pink into your outfit is with a pair of pink shoes and these from Playboy are perfect to wear with a blouse and black trousers to the office, and they’ll look great with your jeans and sweater at the weekend.

Pink shoes for men are hard to find - even I will admit that - but probably not as hard to find as they are hard to get men to wear them but your man can still do his bit for breast cancer awareness in these trainers from New Balance:

They are not overly pink and there is still a lot of black on there so it shouldn’t be too difficult to get them onto his feet and again they’ll look great at the weekend with his jeans.

There are lots of pink tops on the getthelabel.com website for us girls to choose from - and I particularly like the Rare Side Zip Jersey T-shirt, as I can wear it to work with black trousers and court shoes, when I’m out for lunch with the girls with a pair of jeans and ballet pumps, and on a Saturday night out with some leggings and killer heels - versatile or what?

But if you prefer a more casual look with your jeans, there are a million and one great t-shirts such as Henley’s Sailor T.

For the man in your life, how about a Lacoste Pique Crew? Easy for them to throw on, and they can even wear it under a v-neck jumper or shirt if they’re not overly keen on the idea of pink! And again it will be great at the weekend with jeans!

Or, if they are slightly more daring, how about an Ed Hardy T? The Popart Jesus T-shirt is a great shade of pink, and Ed Hardy is THE brand of the moment to be seen in!

For those ladies who want to go the whole hog and dress top-to-toe in pink for the day, why not try a pair of Firetrap Houston Jeans (2909)? These will obviously look great with your pink top and shoes, but you can wear them again with black or white items, and they will still pop!

Your man will probably be pleased to hear that we don’t do any pink men’s trousers yet, so he’ll just have to wear his jeans!!

The kids can get in on the act too if they want - getthelabel.com do a Boys Lacoste Polo Shirt, which is very cute and you could have father and son matching if you really wanted too, by getting dad to wear his Lacoste Plain Polo (1760)!! For the girls there are some very delicious Bench Pink Leggings (1055) which would look great with the Nike Long-sleeve polo (2304).

So, those are my picks for what to wear if you need something pink on your “Dress in Pink” day for Breast Cancer Awareness - for more ideas click through to the “A Touch of Pink” section of the getthelabel.com website, where we’ve grouped everything pink together for you in one place. And remember, Breast Cancer Awareness is a very good cause, so even if you choose not to dress in pink for the day, please find a way of donating or raising some money for them - as they are a very worthwhile cause.
