Organic Baby Products
I was reading a blog post the other day over at Niche Delights and i was shocked to discover that some baby products (Johnsons included eeek!) are packed full of toxins!
Research shows that often the toxicology levels of some baby products from big brands are off the chart. Infact, scientists now believe that our children are exposed to over 80,000 toxic chemicals a day. Now that’s one statistic that scares me.
As mums, we are constantly bombarded with what is right and wrong when it comes to keeping your children happy and healthy. Healthy is one thing that we can definately ensure with the correct diet, activities and products and it appears that every big company, from supermarkets to beauty brands are hooking onto the organic trend - baby products included.
Walking down the aisle in Sainsbury’s the other day I was surrounded by organic this and that. Ella’s Kitchen is a fantastic baby food brand (available in lots of other supermarkets too) which I came across on my travels and has everything from organic fish pie to mango baby brekkie. Another brand I saw is Organix, which has had great reviews and has cereal, porridge and purees in its range. Both these brands, among others, are available from all major supermarkets and are quite reasonably priced so get shopping around.
Thinking about baby products and with the 80,000 toxic chemicals statistic still seared in my brain, its no wonder little babies and children get skin problems such as exzema and rashes. And when they get these skin problems all we do is, you guessed it, put more products on them!
For example Sudocrem, the market leading product for treating nappy rash and my No.1 product for when I get the odd blemish, has got extremely high levels of toxicology.
Johnsons, the baby favourite brand is also ranked No.5 on the toxicology chart (1 being organic, 5 being the most toxic!). “Oh well” I hear you say, “It never did me any harm”… but when it comes to your own baby, you start to think twice.
But what other products can you use? I’ve recently tried some products from a brand called Boo Boo (bought on Amazon) which have a range called Boo Boo Baby including bubble bath, soothing lotions and top-to-toe washes. Their description of the baby range is:
“Our luxurious Boo Boo Baby products are packed with the most ultra kind, safe and natural ingredients that won’t upset baby’s delicate skin. We make sure our goodies don’t contain any harsh additives, are gentle enough for baby and because they’re so yummy, you’ll want to use them too.”
It sounded good enough for me so I bought some and it was really lovely.
Another product I have recently been interested in is one which a friend of mine recommended from a company called Pitta Patta. Its called Baby Rescue and its like the organic version of Sudocrem. It does exactly the same and treats exactly the same problems, but it is completely organic and has essential oils in it such as lavender and camomile to help soothe your baby. This comes with quite a large price tag (which I am assured is worth it!) but if you’re penny pinching, like me you want to find a cheaper product.
Back to my little trip round Sainsburys and they have numerous organic products which offer hectic mums all natural bubble bath, creams and wipes without the hefty prices such as Earth Friendly and Infacare. A few years ago there was a survey which said that the main reason why parents didnt buy organic baby products was because of how expensive they were but with the massive range now on offer in supermarkets theres really no excuse to not buy organic products for your children.
Hope this helps! Let me know any of your recommendations for organic baby products.

I’ve recently tried and tested some of the natural baby range from Rhodes to Heaven - their top-to-toe shampoo & body wash and botti balm - I was really impressed. I reviewed them in full over at my place here if you’d like the links:
