Well Monday is definitely my least favourite day of the week and I’m sure I’m not alone! If only the weekend was three days long…yet we could still earn the same amount of money. Lovely.

In an attempt to perk myself up today I’ve been having a look through Get The Label to find some of the best bargains we have to offer. There are some great discounts to be had so I thought I’d share them with you.

Apparently the recession won’t stop us splashing out this festive season. A report in the News of the World says the average family will spend £665 on Christmas this year, which is more than 20% up on 2008.

Not that everone will be spending as if there’s no tomorrow though. I also stumbled across a survey on moneysupermarket.com that revealed that the average amount we splash out on our children’s Christmas presents is a bit more modest. The most common answer given is that we will spend about £50-100 per child and with most kids expecting a sackful of presents these days, that means bargain hunting is a must.

Yes, yes I did! In my job (head of marketing at Get The Label) Christmas is always on the brain but that doesn’t mean that I don’t make an audible gasp when I start to see Christmas cards and decorations in shops at this time of the year, not to mention Boots starting to display their ‘3-4-2 on Christmas gifts’ stuff already.

However, when I got my regular Money Magpie newsletter with a feature about saving for Christmas, I realised this probably is a good time to start forward planning - something I am usually rubbish at. So here are some tops tips I’ve collected, and some of my own knowledge, for making the countdown to Christmas a bit easier!

October is fast approaching - where has this year gone - and so it’s that time of year again! Yes its Jeans for Genes day next Friday, 2nd October - so it’s time to get organised.

For me this is an important charity to support as it funds support services and research into the causes and cures for genetic disorders. And it’s so easy to support and fun too - all you have to do is wear your jeans and make a donation of £2! Simple. Of course if you want to really get behind this cause you could organise all sorts of fundraising events - Jeans for Genes have lots of ideas on their website.

Had my first e-mail today from a friend asking if I wouldn’t mind not doing the kids pressie thing this year for Christmas,  I must admit I was quite relieved she took the initiative and my list is now reduced just a little.

I’m sure I’m like many of us,  always looking for ways to save money and skim a little off the top - without having to res-use tea bags and become a recluse. So of late I have a become a bit obsessed with voucher websites and money saving tips websites and I’m sure I’m not the only one. A couple of friends and I get a selection of newsletters from these sites and share the best deals - thus cutting down all the reading!
