Choosing a pet

November 17, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Home, Parenting

My first pet a dog called Roots….followed by a dog called Spike…..with current pampered pooch going by the name of Baloo.

I rescued Baloo before I fell pregnant with my little boy and as I didn’t have any kids I wasn’t really looking for a dog that was good with kids. Thankfully Baloo is great with Kian and all kids for that matter, however, choosing a pet that’s right for you you’re family is not easy, so in case your considering the leap to getting a pet I’ve done some investigating on the internet for tips on what type of animal will suit your family. The best advice site I’ve found is Pets and Kids and it’s definitely worth a read. They have a great section about how to pick a pet which I’ve used, along with some of my own ‘in-depth pet knowledge,’ to give a few pointers.

I love Bonfire Night! Wrapping up warm (in my lovely new jacket!), playing with sparklers and stuffing my face with treacle toffee, whilst watching fireworks is my idea of heaven! What’s not to love? With 5th November nearly upon us it’s time for some safety tips in preparation.

Fun hobbies for kids

October 13, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Parenting, Things to do

Kids these days have access to so many things that my generation did not. I routinely think “I wish they did that when I was younger!” but alas, I can’t go back in time. The next best thing for me to do is get Kian involved in some interesting activites. Also I’m constantly reading about how kids these days are overweight and hardly do any exercise and I don’t want Kian falling into that statistic!

Organic Baby Products

October 08, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Food, Parenting

I was reading a blog post the other day over at Niche Delights and i was shocked to discover that some baby products (Johnsons included eeek!) are packed full of toxins!

Research shows that often the toxicology levels of some baby products from big brands are off the chart. Infact, scientists now believe that our children are exposed to over 80,000 toxic chemicals a day. Now that’s one statistic that scares me.

A time to mend…

September 30, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Education, Food, Parenting

Now I know a lot of us have children who, from time to time, drive us nuts. We feel like pulling our hair out because they won’t stop screaming and living off only a couple of hour’s sleep a day (5.51am this moring my little boy wanted Toby from Thomas the Tank Engine, desperately!) is the norm for hectic mums (and dads).

I have read a number of articles in the past which state that some behaviour  issues in children can be linked to what  children eat and the amount of sugars and additives that they consume through fizzy drinks, crisps, white bread & pasta, chocolate, sweets and so on. Not rocket science when you think about it but it does give you ‘food for thought’.
