Fashion, shopping, being a mum, - ideas wanted for new Facebook quizzes

January 14, 2010 By: Liz McNamara Category: Fun, Things to do

I’ve always been a keen Facebook user at home but we’ve started using it more in work now too.

One of things we’ve developed for the Get The Label page is a fashion quiz called Guess The Label. It’s designed to find out if you know your Henleys from your Firetrap. There’s a voucher code included too.

Click on the link and go to Guess The Label if you’re a Facebook user and fancy having a bash at the quiz. The idea is that you challenge your friends to beat your score, so do make sure you share your results afterwards.

I have to tell you, I work for the company, but even I didn’t get all the answers right!

We’re hoping to introduce some more Facebook quizzes over the year and I’m keen to hear if anyone has any ideas. The theme needs to be something that relates to Get The Label – so think designer labels, low prices, bargains and famous fashion brands.

And of course, as I’m a hectic mum and write for a blog called The Hectic Mum, all ideas for quizzes aimed at busy mums will viewed very favourably indeed!

Ideas on a postcard please, although, if it’s easier, do email me or leave a comment if you have a brain wave.

Designer bargains with the X Factor

December 01, 2009 By: Liz McNamara Category: Fashion, Shopping

As a self-confessed X-Factor addict the main thing I look forward to every Saturday and Sunday evening is “What is Cheryl and Dannii wearing?”. If I could raid the costume department at ITV and not get caught then I would get my Catwoman outfit on and go for it!

I’m sure their wardrobes cost thousands of pounds but here at Get The Label we can give them a run for their money and look just as good for a fraction of the price.

Lucie Jones, the now ex-X Factor finalist, was spotted in a Lipsy store trying on several dresses and this one below was a particular favourite of mine:

This Lipsy ruffle dress is fab and (even though she’s not standing up straight) looks perfect for a night out. Get The Label has a size 14 Lipsy Layer Prom dress which is very similar and would look great with a boyfriend blazer and ankle boots. The best part about it is that instead of the full price of £59.99 (which I’m sure Lucie would’ve paid for it!) its a designer bargain at £24.99.

Both Cheryl and Dannii rocked the one-shoulder dress look this weekend which has everyone rushing out and finding theirs for the Christmas season. Get The Label has the perfect Full Circle one shoulder dress which is a cross between a LBD and a one shoulder dress and to make it look a bit more similar to Cheryl’s I would probably finish it off with a rose corsage and some big statement earrings.

Dannii has favoured a rainbow of colours and patterns this series and one dress from the audition stage which really suits her figure is this animal print dress. Get The Label has an on-trend Rare zebra print mini dress in size 8 which, teamed with a fluorescent pink skinny waist belt, will blow Dannii out the water.

Before I go I just though I’d let you know that we’ve started stocking a brand called Apple Bottoms. This cute Apple Bottoms denim corset top is very Katy Perry and all you need is a pair of kitten heels to finish the look off.

In The Pink

October 09, 2009 By: Louise Kilburn Category: Fashion, Shopping

This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so I’m encouraging everyone to think pink and support Cancer Research UK in its bid to raise funds to continue its life-saving work.  A sobering fact is that one out of nine women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life - so the probability is that most of us will know someone who has.  A very good friend of mine was  diagnosed with breast cancer in May, and so I’ve decided this year to actually get off my backside and do something to help -  so I’ve signed up for a fundraising pack and I’m going to hold a “Dress In Pink” day at work and charge everyone £2 to wear something pink to work - and fine them £5 if they don’t!!!

Now because the guys and girls at our place are a little busy at the moment, they’ve asked me to compile a guide for them of what
they can buy in pink from the getthelabel.com site to wear on my “Dress In Pink” day - any excuse for them to shop!  So, I thought I’d share it with you too in case you decide to do something similar.  If you don’t fancy the idea of a “Dress in Pink” day, then don’t worry there are lots of other ways you can raise money - look on the cancerreseachuk.org website under their fundraising page for a list of suggestions.

New Season Sneak Preview

October 02, 2009 By: Louise Kilburn Category: Fashion, Shopping

SO the mayhem that is London Fashion Week (and Paris, New York and Milan) is finally over!  Always a funny time of year for me this - as much as I live, breathe and eat fashion, it does seem a bit odd to be thinking about what we’ll be wearing next Summer, when i’m only just getting round to accepting the fact that Winter is on its way!!  Oh well, us fashionistas always like to be one step ahead.  I suppose it is good in one way, in that if I am going to be spending money on a big purchase, like a leather jacket, it’s easier to do if I know it’s going to be something I’ll wear into next season too.

So, what do the movers and shakers in the fashion world predict we are going to be wearing next summer?
